From Cookie Dough and Netflix to CrossFit and Deadlifts: Christina’s Story

“Roz” is one of those amazing people that manages to lighten up the room wherever she goes. In our gym, she lifts everyone up with encouragement, laughter, and much-needed dance moves. You wouldn’t know how stressful and emotionally painful her professional life could be with the joy she brings and the dedication with which she pushes herself to be her best. Here’s her story in her own words:

My journey with CrossFit started at my job. I’m a nurse in the Burn Unit at MetroHealth and it definitely has its hard moments. When I expressed that I was looking for better methods to de-stress from the work day, one of my coworkers suggested CrossFit. After one YouTube video and about five minutes of the Fittest on Earth Movie, I said “no way, that’s crazy and I’ll probably hurt myself!”

By the end of 2016 my emotions surrounding work were getting harder to leave at the hospital and I was using Netflix and cookie dough to cope with the stress it was taking on my mind and body. I was on the phone one day with my friend and he told me, “I googled CrossFit boxes by you. There’s one in the center of Strongsville. You need to go. Do this for yourself.”

After my intro class, I was hooked. I couldn’t move the next day but that motivated me enough to want to go back because I knew that it would be a good thing. I love every WOD I do now and I can feel myself getting stronger every day. I started at CrossFit Strongsville for weight loss and overall health reasons but I keep coming back for the amazing coaches, incredible members and fabulous music (and the deadlifts). I started seeing Dr. Max for an alignment issue that I believed to be permanent and it’s getting better every week now!

I’m so thankful that I found this Box. It’s making me better in ways I didn’t know I needed. Even when Coach Triah is loudly reminding me to stop resting during Ab Mat sit-ups or squat deeper, I truly am enjoying every moment. I can lift things and move weight that I never thought possible. My goals of rope climbs and Rx’ing a WOD don’t feel unattainable anymore. CrossFit Strongsville helped me save myself so I could help save others and that’s been an incredible gift.
